Hello, Could you please tell me about the procedures of surrendering a dog. I am in a battle with a local rescue that has taken my dog from me after i made a verbal agreement with a private party thinking she was the only one involved. I gave my female Bichon to this neighbour for a temporary placement while my apt was being cleared of mold. we agreed that she would keep the puppies once they were born in exchange for housing her. To my horror i was contacted later in the day by a person from a rescue in Manotick asking for info on my dog. I stated to her that i would bring all the info on my first visit to see her as agreed with the initial party, this is when she annonced to me that i no longer owned the dog and was not able to see her again. i offered to buy her back from them and they refused. I did not sign or give any info about myself or the animal in question. My daughter is heart broken and having panis attacks worrying about her Daisy. Can you offer any info or advice to help us get our dog back from these people.
I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I can’t even imagine how such a thing could happen.
I think each rescue organization has their own procedures that they follow as far as giving a pet up for adoption, but I cannot for the life of me understand how any organization can do as you have related here. The dog was not your neighbor’s to surrender, and a simple explanation by you should have put an end to this.
My only advice to you would be to call the police if you can’t get these rescue people to listen to you. If you can give physical proof that the dog was yours (receipt of purchase, pedigree papers, vet bills, license fees, etc.) then I can’t understand why she would not be promptly returned to you and your daughter.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me here, or at thewaggery@gmail.com
I am very much hoping for a happy ending for you all!
