It’s estimated that dogs sleep, on average, 13 hours a day. I’m pretty sure my dogs are the exception, or maybe it just seems that way because at the moment they’re racing around me, chasing each other up and over and under the furniture. And that’s after being outside for an hour running around and playing. Still, they do have their quiet moments, and they sure do love a good nap. They also love comfort, so a good, comfy bed is a must!
But are designer beds comfortable? I admit, I do like the look of some of the ones I’ve seen; others, not so much. And while I understand the desire to have a place for your dog to sleep that will blend with the rest of the decor, so many of them aren’t very comfortable, and if the dog won’t use it, what’s the point?
These are a few fun designer-type beds I think my dogs would approve of . . .
Basically it’s a dog couch
The MaxComfort BioMedic Gustavo pet sofa bed is made of memory foam
A tad more chic in design
The Moderno dog bed, from Bowsers, looks like a miniature Corbusier chair
For the smaller dog who likes the cozy feeling of being more closed inBowsers’ Buttercup bed, shown in “Ritz” pattern,
has a drawstring closure
Plain and simple!
Famed photographer William Wegman created a line of stain- and odour-resistant pet bed fabrics. This one is called: “Posey Moonlight”
This one is my favourite
How cool is that?
The Hardwood Hideaway looks like a side table and comes in several finishes
Of course, if your dog doesn’t like the bed you choose, it’s not like he or she will take into consideration all the time, effort and thought you put into purchasing it. No, in the end, they will always let you know exactly what they think of it.
Velcro Dog likes his dog pillow but prefers the Sleep Number bed or the couch. He’s not allowed on the couch (we know he sneaks up there when we’re not home but we never catch him in the act) and we keep the bedroom door closed so unless he’s invited up he can’t get on the bed. If we put his pillow in the sunshine and tuck one of my slippers on it, Velcro Dog is in seventh heaven. He doesn’t chew on the slipper, just snuggles it. He’s so funny. :)
